Can I use Polygon’s data if I am not a US citizen? 

Our free tier subscriptions come with a limit of 5 API requests per minute. Paying customers have access to unlimited API requests. While we do not have a specific rate limit, we do monitor usage to ensure that no single user affects the quality of service for others. To avoid any throttling issues, we recommend staying under 100 requests per second.


What is the request limit for Polygon’s RESTful APIs? 

There is no limitation on our side to the number of tickers you can subscribe to at once as long as you can consume the data fast enough. You can subscribe to all tickers and all events simultaneously in one WebSocket feed. 
 You can subscribe to all tickers using the "\*" character. For example, to subscribe to trades for the entire US equities universe, you can use {"action":"subscribe", "params":"T.\*"} 
 You can also use a comma separated list of events + tickers to subscribe to a custom list of tickers/events, such as {"action":"subscribe", "params":"T.AAPL, Q.MSFT, AM.F, A.SPY"} 
 The maximum character limit you can insert in the subscribe message is 1MB worth of characters.

How many tickers can you subscribe to on a single Polygon WebSocket connection? 

There is no limit to the number of tickers you can query in a single Snapshot request. 

What is the max number of tickers I can pass through Polygon's Snapshot?

The Polygon.io Stocks WebSocket API provides real-time streaming access to stock market data from all US stock exchanges. You can choose which channels you want to receive by sending instructions in the form of actions. The API will notify you when an event occurs in a channel you have subscribed to. 
 
Our WebSocket APIs are based on entitlements that control which WebSocket clusters you can connect to and the types of data you can access. Examples of this in the [documentation](https://polygon.io/docs/stocks/ws_getting-started "documentation") include API key, which is unique and personalized to your entitlements. 
 
WebSockets are available through all paid subscriptions. To use the API, you need to connect, authenticate and then subscribe to stream WebSocket messages. Our documentation provides steps to help you get set up and examples using "wscat" to connect. Additionally, we provide [sample libraries](https://github.com/polygon-io/client-examples "sample libraries") in different programming languages to help you connect.

How can I connect to a Polygon WebSocket? 

Each account comes with access to one simultaneous WebSocket connection per cluster. For example, if you have our Stocks Developer package and our Currencies package, you will have access to one stocks WebSocket connection, one crypto WebSocket connection, and one forex WebSocket connection. You can connect to as many tickers or events as you want in a single WebSocket feed. For example, you could stream AAPL trades, GM quotes, and F aggregates per minute in a single connection. 
 If you need additional stock WebSocket connections, they can be purchased for $75/month/connection.

How many Polygon WebSocket connections can I use at one time? 

WebSocket disconnects can happen for various reasons. One common reason is when market data is not being consumed fast enough. Our server-side buffer can fill, resulting in delayed and killed connections. To prevent this, it is best to read packets off the network immediately and put them into a queue. A separate thread can then parse the messages and process them. Additionally, using multi-threaded languages like GoLang or C# can be more efficient for streaming large amounts of data than single-threaded languages like Python. You can check the buffer limit in the connections tab in your [dashboard](https://polygon.io/dashboard/connections "dashboard").

Why do Polygon WebSocket disconnects happen? 

Unfortunately, we do not provide a platform for executing trades. We specialize in providing real-time and historical stock, forex, crypto, and options data to individual users and businesses. To execute trades, users would need to connect to a brokerage service using the information provided by our platform.


Can I execute trades through Polygon’s platform? 

Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) is a momentum indicator that is calculated by subtracting the 26-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) from the 12-period EMA. Traders use MACD to determine whether market trends are accelerating by evaluating whether the value is above or below the signal line. The signal line is the difference between the two EMAs. MACD is often shown with a histogram that graphs the distance between the MACD and its signal line. The histogram value indicates how far the MACD is away from the signal line, and the direction in which momentum is moving.

What is a Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD)?

Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a technical indicator that is represented as a number between 0 and 100. It analyzes whether a security's price movement is a result of it being overbought or oversold. RSI can also be used to identify assets that are primed for a trend reversal or correction in price. A security is generally considered oversold when the RSI is below 30, and overbought when the RSI is above 70.


What is a Relative Strength Index (RSI)?

Exponential Moving Average (EMA) is a technical indicator that is similar to the Simple Moving Average (SMA) but places greater weight on more recent data as it is considered more relevant or important. The weighting given to the most recent price is greater for a shorter-period EMA than for a longer-period EMA. Since the EMA calculation gives more weight to the most recent data, it "hugs" the price action more closely and reacts more quickly than the SMA.


What is an Exponential Moving Average (EMA)?

Simple Moving Average (SMA) is a technical indicator that calculates the average price of a security over a specified period of time. It is useful for determining if an asset will continue or reverse its current trend. The SMA is customizable as you can adjust it for different number of time periods. For example, a 10-day SMA would be calculated by summing prices over the last ten daily-aggregates (including the current day) and dividing that value by 10. This window corresponds to the timespan of the underlying aggregates. So if a user requests SMA data and specifies a timespan of "minute", and a window of 20, each value will be calculated using prices from the previous 20 minute aggregates, including the current one.

What is a Simple Moving Average (SMA)?

Polygon does not offer free trials for our paid subscription tiers, but we do offer a free tier that comes with two years of historical end-of-day aggregate data.

Does Polygon Offer Free Trials? 

Our [Aggregates endpoint](https://polygon.io/docs/stocks/get_v2_aggs_ticker__stocksticker__range__multiplier___timespan___from___to "Aggregates endpoint")  has a limit parameter that limits the number of base aggregates queried to create the aggregate results. The base aggregate would be the timespan used in the query. When querying minute or hourly aggregate bars, the limit parameter has a base of minutes. The maximum number of results returned is 50,000 results. This means that when querying minute bars with the maximum limit, you are querying 50,000 minutes' worth of bars. This is approximately 1.5 months' worth of minute bars. If you are querying a larger time frame, you may see gaps in the aggregate response. To avoid this, we recommend limiting any minute or hourly aggregate bar requests to 1-month time frames per query. Does Polygon offer sample code? 

Aggregate bar delays are intentional and designed for quality assurance purposes on our end. Trades are occasionally sent in late. FINRA, for example, has up to 15 minutes to report a trade that happened on any of the dark pools. We deal with these delayed trades differently for second and minute aggregates. 
 
For second aggregates, we wait an additional 2 seconds for any high latency messages or late trades to come in. We broadcast the bar after that 2 second delay. We broadcast the bar and hold onto it for another 15 minutes for more trades to come in that would affect that second. It is important to note that we only hold that ‘buffer’ for 15 minutes. If any trades come in after that 15 minute buffer period, they will not be included until the end of the day. 
 
For minute aggregates, we broadcast the bars as we receive the trades and calculate them. If subsequent trades are received, we recalculate that bar and send it out again. Like the second aggregates, if a trade comes in after that 15-minute window, it will not be included in the candle until the end of the day. 
 
For daily aggregates, we are continuously calculating the 1 daily bar, so this gets updated no matter how late the trade comes in. 
 
We do this to ensure that the data we broadcast via our Stock API is correct, even if there have been changes. We feel that rebroadcasting corrected data is better than dropping subsequent details.

Why am I receiving a late aggregate bar through Polygon’s WebSockets? 

Yes, it is possible to create as many API keys as you want. You can create, edit, or delete API keys in your [dashboard](https://polygon.io/dashboard/api-keys "dashboard") at any time. 

Can I create multiple Polygon API keys? 

Our aggregates “snap” the time spans to the beginning of each timespan resolution. Snapping a time parameter means changing that time parameter to include a wider range to ensure all the aggregate bars are full. We snap the ‘from’ parameter to the beginning of the resolution, and we snap the ‘to’ parameter to the end resolution. For example, minute bars begin at the top of the minute (9:30:00), hour bars begin at the top of the hour (9:00:00), daily bars begin at the beginning of the day (12:00:00 AM EST), weekly bars begin Sunday at 12:00:00 AM EST, monthly bars begin on the first day of the month and quarterly bars begin on the first day of the quarter. 
 
If you are trying to query the Open, High, Low, Close values from just the premarket times, you would need to use a ‘minute’ timespan and adjust the multiplier to 330 or 5.5 hours (4 AM - 9:30 AM). This would return one bar for the entire premarket.
